Overview
Hidden House Coffee started as a single café in Orange County with a simple promise: source honestly, roast carefully, treat people well. Sixteen years later, that promise has carried them to three locations - Santa Ana, San Juan Capistrano, and beyond - without losing the neighborhood feel.
Ello Branding has led brand identity and packaging design for Hidden House for nearly the entire run - coffee bag packaging, custom apparel, print, and campaigns - as they grew from a local secret into a name recognized across Southern California.

The Challenge
A coffee brand that grows this much, this long, runs into one problem: how do you scale without becoming generic? Hidden House needed a brand system that could stretch across a growing product line while still feeling handmade and personal - and hold up visually for years, not just one season.
The brand needed to:
Scale across coffee bags, merch, collabs, and wholesale accounts
Stay personal and handmade-feeling, not corporate
Hold up visually over years, not just one season
Support new formats without fragmenting the identity

The Approach
This has been a continuous creative direction and brand strategy relationship - evolving as the business does, one project at a time. The result is a full identity system that holds together everywhere: packaging that reads shelf-ready next to any specialty roaster, apparel that turned Hidden House into something people wear, and print design that stays considered at every size.
What we built together:
A full identity system spanning packaging, apparel, print, and campaigns
Coffee bag packaging built to hold its own on any specialty shelf
Custom apparel and illustration people actually wear
Sixteen years of continuous creative direction

The Results
Sixteen years in, Hidden House has grown from one café to three Orange County locations, built a merch line people love, landed local brand collaborations, and become one of Southern California's most recognized specialty coffee brands - while still feeling like a locals' favorite, not a chain.
Sixteen years of growth:
Grew from 1 café to 3 Orange County locations
Built a merch line customers wear as everyday apparel
Landed multiple local brand collaborations
Became one of Southern California's most recognized coffee brands
Kept a loyal, locals-first following throughout
